Cash in hand is a hot topic in the industry. With some supportive and others not so much of the alternative payment method. But, cash is not something that is accepted in one particular Facebook group. In fact, offering to pay will get you banned!

Instead, for this group, their form of currency is sex. Whether this is for services like gardening, plumbing or setting up someone’s wifi, this Facebook group is full of members ready to exchange their bodies, instead of their money, for people’s services.

Originally reported by Vice Mexico, the group operates in Mexico and consequently, posts have been translated into English. The description of the group read: “NO MONEY… only stuff or services for sex.”

“Anyone offering to pay with money will be banned.”

“We’re nice, respectful people.”

“It’s up to each member to decide whether the deal is fair or not, and if he or she is willing to accept it.”

“No inbox stalking! If you do that, you will be deleted and banned from the group.”

“People under 18 are not allowed. If you find a member who is not serious or fails to pay, please report him/her.”

There, Vice went undercover to take a look at the interactions in the group. It was there that they also began to interact with members of the group too. One individual described that at 26 years old, her apartment was full of stuff she had received in exchange for sex. Including things like her wifi.

She described to the company: “I don’t consider my self a sex worker.”

“I don’t charge. People just give me stuff for sleeping with whomever I want.”

But, this Facebook group isn’t the only one of its kind in Mexico. Instead, the same kinds of transactions can also be found on Spanish bartering websites and Craiglist. One post described: “Free!!! Unemployed gardener…”

“Free!! Gardening for sex. If you are discreet, contact me…”

“…gardener offering his services to women between 18 and 50 years old in exchange for sex.”

“I can clean your garden and prune your trees for free, barter, economic aid, whatever you wanna call it. Discretion. Age: 40”

Unfortunately, it’s not all jokes on these kinds of sites though. Instead, many do it because they are living in extreme poverty and need to do it to cover the things they need.

Not only that, but papers have also been written to discuss the use of sex as a form of currency. Within this, most studies found that using sex as payment for a transaction is predominantly found to be because of three main factors. Western consumerism, the pay gaps between men and women and poverty.
