Recent statistics from the Health and Safety Executive have revealed that construction is the most dangerous profession in the UK.

In 2016 and 2017, thirty people were injured fatally whilst working in the construction industry. Of course, the risks are high within the industry with the involvement of a lot of heavy objects and working at heights.

Coming in at second place as the most dangerous industry was agriculture. Twenty-seven farmers were killed in 2016/17. In third place was manufacturing in which 19 people were killed.

In total, one hundred and thirty-seven people sustained fatal injuries and a further 92 members of the public were also killed during 2016/17 due to activities related to work.

When looking at how people were killed in the workplace though, it was found that being hit by a moving vehicle was the most common cause. Specifically, thirty-one people were killed in this way.

After that, falls from heights were the next biggest killer. Specifically, twenty-five workers suffered fatal injuries in this manner. Alongside this, ten workers were also found to have been killed after being trapped by machinery that had overturned or collapsed.

So what do you think of this? Is construction the most dangerous industry? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
