Apparently, 40% of the construction industry’s labour force comes from eastern Europe.
Now, as a result of Brexit, migration has dropped by 59,000. For those who voted to leave the EU, this appears positive. However, according to construction manager’s, this is having a negative impact upon the industry.
According to one manager, this is because within the British workforce, there is higher rates of sickness. Alongside this, they are also apparently not as well trained and expect higher pay. Overall, he personally feels that the sickness rate for eastern European workers is ten times lower than that of the British.

He stated: “we simply don’t have the amount of skilled labour to run large projects without eastern European help.”
“And they’re very skilled and hard workers.”
