2016 was not the best year for the construction industry. The October reports were displaying a decline in construction. And there was a large amount of uncertainly following the Brexit vote. However, rising interests in new build housing could be good news for many tradesmen in the industry.
In November, plans were set for a new £1.4 billion housing fund to help construct 40,000 new homes. However, according to reports, these homes are being built at a much slower rate than necessary. Apparently, if new steps are not implemented to boost construction, then the government will miss out on its one million new homes by 2020 by more than a quarter.
Despite this though, tradesmen can still benefit from this demand of new housing. Apparently, bricklayers, plumbers, groundworkers and painter and decorators are most likely to seek benefit from the increasing demands.
