Apparently, working in the construction industry is so stressful that workers end up feeling that they look nine years older than they actually are.
This is according to research by Remescar into British attitudes towards beauty, focusing on how work life can impact appearance. 2,401 people were quizzed about their work lives and how they felt it took a toll on their appearance.
Three quarters of the sample responded that they felt their jobs placed a large amount of stress upon them. Even to the point that they felt it aged them. Only a third revealed though that they would consider switching to a less stressful job. The top reasons for this though was that individuals “love their jobs” and “get on well with their colleagues.”
Money was also a factor with 20% stating they wouldn’t switch careers due to the fact that they “have a good salary.”
The construction industry was ranked third in the list of industries which most prematurely age their workers. The sector came out just below the healthcare and education industries. On the opposite end of the scale though, those working in hair and beauty felt their job made them look six years younger!
Of the individuals who felt their job aged them though 68% stated that they felt it was because they had to work longer than contractual hours. 71% also admitted that they felt it was due to worrying about their job outside of work too.
The marketing manager of Remescar stated: “it’s interesting to see which workers feel their jobs make them look older, or even younger.”
“We can only begin to imagine the level of stress.”
“With construction it’s all about meeting deadlines and working outside in all weathers.”
