Apparently, those working within the construction industry are the most hardworking people in the UK!

This is according to research that looked into the amount of holiday construction workers take each year. According to company Sunshine, who conducted the study, 34% of UK employees finish the year without taking their full amount of holiday. Specifically, in terms of construction workers, most finish the year with around four days left of annual leave!

When looking at the reasons behind this though, it was found that eighty-six percent of the 3,172 respondents felt they were simply too busy to take time off. Alongside this, a further four percent felt that they just didn’t feel it was necessary to take time off.

With construction workers ranked as the hardest working people in the UK though, tradesmen have been commended for the impact this has had on the industry. Currently, construction is at a seventeen month high! Read all about this report here.

However, by not taking their holiday, fifty-seven percent of respondents actually lost out on these days off. And, workers have also come into contact with some criticism regarding not taking all of their annual leave. The managing director of Sunshine described: “I can’t see why anyone with allocated, paid holiday allowance would not take it all over the course of the year.”

“It’s understandable that work gets busy from time to time, but that’s all the more reason to take some time off… not a reason to just sacrifice your annual leave!”

“This is actually a really worrying trend, particularly because people working in construction and healthcare can’t afford to make mistakes in their jobs due to the nature of their roles and the environments they work in.”

“Not taking time away from work can lead to tiredness and, in turn, errors.”

But with construction workers facing rogue customers, can they afford to take time off. Apparently, four out of five tradesmen have been left out of pocket by a rogue customer. Read all about it here.
