A new survey has recently found that 76% of electrical workers prefer to work for an employer directly, instead of through an agency.
According to the research for the Joint Industry Board, just one in six electrical workers stated that they prefer working for an agency. Of these who admitted that they preferred agency work, 43% stated that this was due to flexibility. A further 29% also felt that it was because they could earn more.
Of those who preferred direct employment though, 62% of workers held that the main reason behind this decision was due to being able to ‘enjoy their full employment rights’. A further 63% also stated that it was due to having ‘steady employment’. And 59% also ‘valued the holidays and additional benefits available’ with direct employment.
Four hundred and twenty-two electrical workers took part in the study. The director of employment at the Electrical Contractors’ Association spoke about these findings. He stated: “these findings overwhelmingly show that electrotechnical workers are more content and likely to be more productive working directly for an employer.”
“While agency workers can be a necessary source of flexible labour for businesses, the industry should take a hard look at the value of temporary employment.”
“It’s now time for a rebalancing that ensures worker productivity is maximised moving forward.”
