It’s time for another episode of Quids In and our favourite presenter is back… Dan!

This week sponsored by Castle Homes of Warick, we had another show for our audience packed full of giveaways, news, tips, shoutouts and heroes. But, will all of this to choose from, what shall we start with? Well, it’s got to be the news headlines of course!

News Headlines!

Construction workers urged to do more about their stress levels!

Yep, working in the industry can be a stressful game with the long hours, being self-employed and late payments. It can all get on top of you. And, this is supported by recent research which found that even when work is done, many tradespeople struggle to destress.

In fact, it was found that more than half of construction workers do nothing outside of work to relieve their stress. So, what do we say? Well, Dan added, “managers and bosses, make sure your employees take time to manage their stress levels and give them flexi-time if needed.”

Plus, less stress means better productivity and efficiency from your workers too which means you’ll be… QUIDS IN!

Next up we had, ‘Could your van be held to ransom over this MOT change?

In the short, no, it can’t. But, Dan went on to explain that there had been multiple reports of this happening and owners left stranded. Therefore, clarification has been given over these new rules and that while you cannot drive away if your vehicle fails it’s MOT, you can get it towed.

Dan recommended that the best way to avoid this tricky business is to do your research before your MOT comes about. In planning for a failure, you can make sure you’re not stuck if things don’t quite go to plan and will avoid any nasty fines. And we all know what that means. You’ll be… QUIDS IN!

Speaking of which it was time for our first competition, cement mixer lottery! Thanks to our sponsor’s Castle Homes of Warick, we were able to give away a Hitachi Disk Grinder worth £70. But that’s not all, we were also giving away some exclusive OTT merch as well! And, all our audience had to do to be in with a chance of winning was guess the number… FIVE! Simple.

With one competition down though, it was now time for our second segment of the show, caption this!

Caption This!

This is the part of the show where we have our audience comment on what they think the caption should be for the image on the screen. This week, it was a digger that had fallen onto a car. Ouch! We had a belter of a caption in from our very own Production Assistant Intern Liz with…

‘How did the job go? Crushed it!’

That was a tough one to beat but, one of our audience members did it and won themselves a hoodie! Their caption was ‘we all have a tipping point.’

What a belter!

But, with our winner chosen, it was now time for our next competition, wheel of fortune. And, thanks to our friends at Caste Homes of Warick, we were able to give our audience the chance to win an Einhell Hammer Drill worth £80. Plus, they could also win some OTT merch too, bonus!

What great guys eh? In fact, they build some really luxurious niche properties in the Warwickshire area so if you have any residential development land opportunities there then make sure you get in touch with them so they can keep building houses and providing more jobs for tradespeople. Can’t get any better than that! Go on Castle Homes of Warick!

But, moving back to our competition, all our winner had to do to be in with a chance of winning was guess the number… NINE!

With two competitions down, we were now officially halfway through our show. But, what’s next I hear you ask? Well, it can only be one thing surely. It’s time for top tips!

Top Tips!

This is the part of the show where we try and help UK tradespeople keep more money in their pockets. By using these top tips, we hope that people will manage to stay… QUIDS IN!

Tip 1: Virgin price hikes. Yep, Virgin are hiking their prices for 5 million broadband and tv customer by an average of 4.5%. But, don’t worry, you can leave penalty free! All you need to do is provide notice within 30 days of receiving a notification about the hike. They are reportedly sending these out between now and September so take a look to see if you can switch and save yourself some money. Because we all know what that means… you’ll be QUIDS IN!

Tip 2: Compare the market hack. You can spend around a pound and get two for one deals across thousands of restaurants and on movie tickets too for an entire year! Compare the Market launched their new two for one meals recently and while you may not necessarily need to use the compare the market service, you could take advantage of these offers just by spending a pound!

But how do you do this? Well, by purchasing something cheap like one night’s UK travel insurance cover, (which costs as little as £1.01), you would be eligible to use the two for one offers for the next 12 months! Plus, this £1 spend on travel insurance you don’t need will be cheaper than a meal or another cinema ticket, so you’ll save money just by using it once!

Speaking of saving money though it was time for another competition and for our audience to win something for free. This time, thanks to our friends at Castle Homes of Warick, we were giving away a Hitachi Combi Drill with batteries along with some more OTT goodies!

Heading over to Scott at the Blindfold Darts Arena, it was, of course, time for blindfold darts. And, to win this gear, all our audience needed to do was guess the number… 19!

With our third competition done with, it was now time for our final segment of the show, shoutouts!

Shoutouts!

Here, we give our audience the chance to take part in the show by getting themselves a shoutout. Alongside this, we also honour our hero of the week. This is where we salute a member of the industry for their incredible work.

And, this week, we honoured electrician Josh Lang. Currently, he does a lot of work for Hull-based charity Special Smiles. This ranges from doing electrical work for the many parents of the group to installing sensory rooms for the children. And, on top of the electrical work, he also volunteers to help with events, and on nights and weekends when the group do various activities ranging from going to play areas or horse riding.

Not only that, but he is also currently in the process of looking into how to set up a disabled children’s charity group. Not just for disabled children but also disabled teens as well to help teach them essential skills for their adult lives. What a guy! Josh Lang, we salute you!

But, without any further ado, the claxon sounded and Dan moved onto our final competition, patchphrase. And, the final prize was a Makita on-site radio worth £160! Now, before you presume, patchphrase is not like any other popular programme… that could possibly begin with a C… nope not at all…

Moving swiftly on though, all our audience had to do was guess the image that was being revealed behind the patches. (With a few helpful hints from Dan too). And, this time, it was, the popular phrase ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day!’

And that was it, our final competition was won. All that was left to say now was a massive thank you to Castle Homes of Warick for sponsoring the show and providing us with some amazing prizes! And, finally, goodbye to our live audience and everyone watching at home. Thank you!
