It’s Friday, it’s 12:15 pm so that can mean only one thing, it’s time for… Quids In. Yes, Quids In our weekly Facebook Live show where we aim to keep more money in the pockets of UK tradespeople. And, this week, our show was hosted by the fantastic Dan and sponsored by the brilliant City Plumbing!

City Plumbing truly are the guys for all your plumbing, heating, spares, electrical and bathroom needs. They have over 4,000 products in every branch and over 370 branches nationwide. Not only that but, thanks to them, we were able to give away over £1,300 worth of prizes on today’s show! But first, it was time to kick things off with some news…

News Headline!

‘Skip and diesel price hikes affecting tradespeople across the UK!’

According to new research by the Federation of Master Builders, more and more tradespeople are having to pass on the extra costs associated with price hikes on skips and diesel.

The study found that nearly two-thirds of builders have had to pass on the added cost of skips to their customers. This is after price rises which three-quarters of builders have reported to have seen over the past 12 months.

It’s not just the skips either. The hike in diesel prices has also had a negative impact on the UK’s tradespeople as well. In fact, since the hikes, almost 50% of small and medium businesses have faced lower margins on their projects. To combat this, 17% have stated that they’ve had to charge customers extra to cover this. A further 10% have had to cut down on how much they’re using their vehicle too. And, more than 1 in 10 have had to turn down projects that they would have usually done.

Why? Because they were too far away.

So, homeowners, if you’re currently having work done on your home and experience these kinds of costs, please remember that tradespeople don’t have a choice but to pass these on, they need to make money too.

And for all of you in the trade, we’ll try and bring you some top tips in future shows on this kind of thing, but in the meantime, quote your jobs with this in mind!

But, before Dan could tell us any more the competition claxon sounded for our first giveaway, cement mixer lottery. Here, our audience had the chance to win a Bosch Professional Multi-Detector worth £65 and a Bosch Combi Laser worth £100!

To be in with a chance of winning, all they had to do was guess the correct number between one and twelve. And, this week, it was the lucky number… EIGHT!

With one competition down, it was now time for our second segment of the show, caption this!

Caption This!

This is the part of the show where we have our audience comment on what they think the caption should be for the image on the screen. This week, it was an image of a tradesman lounging on a sofa watching tv and being towed by another worker! For this one, Dan came up with the pretty decent caption of: ‘Just started my shift… sofa so good!’

And now, it was up to our audience to beat it and win themselves an OTT hoodie. But, while the captions were coming in, it was time for our second competition, wheel of fortune! This time, our audience had the chance to win a Hive Active Heating Thermostat and stand worth £199 and a Dewalt Combi Drill SDS Kit worth £270. That’s a fantastic £470 worth of gear to be won just by picking the correct number between one and twelve.

This was all thanks to our sponsors City Plumbing who have over 4,000 products in every branch and over 370 branches nationwide.

But, who got to win all of this? Well, this week, the winning number was… SIX!

With two competitions down, we were now officially halfway through our show. But, what’s next I hear you ask? Well, it can only be one thing surely. It’s time for top tips!

Top Tips!

Tip 1: Christmas trees for £5!

It’s December and finally acceptable to get the Buble blasting and put your Christmas decs up. But, if you haven’t got yourself a tree yet, this year, you could bag yourself a bargain one from Ikea for just £5! The retail price of the tree is £25 and you will have to pay this initially. However, when you come to pay, they’ll give you a £20 voucher to spend in the new year!

So, if you need a new tree then get yourself down to your nearest Ikea and you can bag yourself a bargain with a free voucher too!

Tip 2: Pick up your copy of the City Plumbing Trade Price Guide from your local branch.

It’s also packed full of cheeky offers too so grab yourself a guide and save yourself some money.

Before Dan could give any more tips though, the competition claxon sounded for our third giveaway, blindfold darts! Here, our audience had the chance of winning a 32GB Apple iPad in Space Grey worth £348! All thanks to City Plumbing!

Heading over to the Blindfold Darts Arena, James was with Mat who was back and blindfolded ready to throw the darts. But, to be in with a chance of winning these prizes, our audience had to guess the number… FOUR!

Three competitions won, and with just one more to go, it was now time for the next part of our show… shoutouts!

Shoutouts!

This is where our audience has the chance to get involved live on air and bag themselves a shoutout. Not only that, but we also honour our hero of the week too. Here, we talk about a tradesperson who has gone above and beyond in the industry.

This week, we honoured Martyn Marsh a scaffolder from Middlesbrough. He is giving back this Christmas collecting food, toiletries, toys, books etc for the less fortunate and food banks in his area. He’s been doing this for the past 3 years now and it is growing each time.

Martyn said: “The amount I’ve received this year has been superb but we still have 6 days to make it even bigger and better than previous years.”

Incredible work Martyn!

But, before Dan could talk about things any further, the competition claxon sounded again and it was time for our final competition, mug shot. This is where our man Jamie tries to throw as many of his 12 tea bags into the oversized mug hoop as possible. And he’s not very good at it!

Averaging at about 2, there weren’t high hopes with the audience. But, this time, our audience could win an XBOX One S 1Tb Console and three games all worth £390! And to be in with a chance of winning, all they had to do was guess a whopping… SEVEN!

Shocking! This truly was a show for the books. He must have been practising!

And that was it, the end of our show. All that was left to say now was a massive thank you to everyone who took part and our sponsor’s City Plumbing. See you next time!
