A recent survey has revealed what many people in the trade already knew: the British public are pretty clueless when it comes to DIY.
Of course, basic DIY such as hanging up a picture or putting together a piece of Ikea flatpack furniture doesn’t quite require hiring a professional. However, a recent survey has uncovered some worrying statistics that show just how bad Brits actually are at DIY.
Take a look at some of the worst construction fails here.
According to the survey that was conducted by Plentific.com, 33% of Brits don’t even know how to change a lightbulb! Admitting that instead, they’d need instructions to aid them. And that’s not all. 45% of respondents didn’t know how to fix a leaking tap either. And 33% had no idea how to bleed a radiator!
The survey found that 28% didn’t know how to put up shelves either. And, a quarter of Brits were unable to even drill a hole in the wall.
It’s not just a lack of knowledge though that stops homeowners from doing DIY around the house. Instead, 39% felt that they didn’t have the time. And 18% of others simply just didn’t like it, so didn’t do it.
Plentific’s Stephen Jury described: “It is quite surprising that such a large number of Brits do not know how to do basic DIY jobs.”
“We would always recommend that people look up instructions if they are unsure of how to do more complicated tasks.”
“If you just hate DIY, on the other hand, you could always just call a professional to do your work for you!”
Despite needing the help of tradesmen for what seems like quite a lot of DIY jobs around the house, it has recently been revealed that some homeowners are actually really bad-mannered towards tradesmen. A third wouldn’t even offer them a drink! Take a look at the full report here.
