A British builder has suffered a dangerous head injury after being exposed to hazardous levels of carbon monoxide. Following this injury, he has also developed an Eastern European accent.

But his injuries are not the only thing he has to cope with. No, thirty seven year old Robert Paling is also having to deal with regular racist threats and remarks. On the streets, he get’s racially abused and told to “go back to where he came from.”

Robert described: “It’s been very upsetting.”

He tries to explain to them that he’s actually from Hull, but eventually he gives up describing “these people know me for a minute and then I never see them again.”

His accent, and more than likely the racial abuse, is something Robert will have to live with for the rest of his life though. He can no longer carry out basic tasks following the accident and doctors have concluded that he will likely have the foreign accent for the rest of his life.
