Millions of workers across the UK could be due a very nice added bonus from HMRC this Christmas!
Yep, the tax giants are well and truly in the festive spirit as millions of workers, including those in construction, could be able to claim a cheeky little rebate from them this holiday season.
Well, as part of the job, sometimes, you might need to dip into your own pocket. This could be for something like replacing/repairing small tools, maintaining your work branded uniform or work mileage. All of these are work-related expenses and, if you’re paid via PAYE, you could get some money back for them!
So, workers are being urged to go online and check it out. If eligible, your rebate will be processed and in your account in just three weeks. Perfect in time for Christmas! Take a look to see whether you could be missing out on some extra cash here.
What can I claim on?
You may be able to claim tax relief on the following things:
1. Replacing/repairing small tools needed to do your job.
2. Repairing, cleaning or replacing specialist clothing. This can include things like safety boots or even a branded uniform.
3. Business mileage. However, this does not include commuting.
The Financial Secretary to the Treasury described: “We know what a difference tax relief can make to hard-working customers, especially at this time of year.”
“HMRC is keen to make sure customers get all the relief they’re entitled to by using their online service.”
“Tax relief isn’t available for all employment expenses so the online Check If You Can Claim tool is very helpful.”
“Then, if your claim is approved, your full tax relief will be paid directly into your bank account.”
So what do you think? Could you be due a cheeky little Christmas present from HMRC this year? Make sure you check it out!
