A plumber has recently reported to have been kidnapped by one of his elderly customers after he refused to give her a receipt.
According to the report by the Times, the incident, which occurred in Chieri, Italy, was over a bill for a newly installed boiler. It described that the seventy five year old lady locked the plumber in her apartment after he refused to give her a receipt for the £70 work he’d completed.
Working on her boiler, the old age pensioner insisted that she wanted a receipt to confirm the use of new parts. However, according to the homeowner, the dispute soon turned violent. She described that the plumber hit her and it was at this point that she ran out of her apartment, locking the door behind her.
She stated: “I wanted to be sure that he had used new parts.”
However, the local police took a very different outlook on the incident. Instead, they accused her of kidnap and “arbitrary exercise of her rights”.
The plumber denied becoming violent with the elderly lady and was released just an hour later. The police did however make him write up a formal bill. The old age pensioner is yet to see any receipts for parts though.
The Times added that tax evasion is quite common in Italy. In fact, it’s almost seen as a type of national sport!
Whereas here in the UK, tax evasion is being cracked down on. People are even calling for a complete ban of cash in hand payments. Alongside this, they are also looking to make receipts compulsory across the UK too. Take a look the full report on this here.
