Hello and welcome to this week’s episode of ‘Quids In’! Our weekly Facebook Live show, we aim to keep more money in the pockets of UK tradespeople. How? With hints, top tips, offers and, of course, incredible giveaways!
As always, we had our host Andy Taylor back for another fantastic show and this week we teamed up with our good friends Construction Skills People!
And, thanks to them, we were able to give away some cracking prizes including a 32GB Samsung Galaxy A6, an Apple Watch, a Makita Bluetooth Speaker and Makita SDS-Plus Rotary Hammer Drill Bundle and an Xbox One Console with Forza Horizon 4 Game Bundle. All together, worth a whopping £1,000!
But first, it was time for the news…
A tradesman has recently been threatened with a hammer after catching tool thieves red-handed! Yep, tradesman Phil Mayes was just going about his business in Basildon when he noticed two men going through his van.
When he confronted them, he was met with threats and one was even wielding a hammer!
Thankfully though, the two men fled the scene and Phil kept hold of his tools. This truly is a shocking example of what can happen in broad daylight! And, that more needs to be done about tool theft. Sooner rather than later. Disgraceful!
But, before Andy could discuss things any further, it was time for our first competition, cement mixer lottery. With numbered balls between one and twelve, all our audience needed to do was guess the correct number. And, this time, they had a chance of winning a Samsung Galaxy A6 32GB Mobile Phone worth £229. This was all thanks to Construction Skills People who are the people to go to if you need a CSCS or CPCS card.
They even offer IPAF and PASMA, training courses across the UK too!
And, thanks to them, our lucky winner picked the number nine and won themselves a brand new phone!
With one competition down, it was now time for the next part of our show, caption this!
The aim of the game here is for our audience to simply caption the image they see on the screen. Easy! Plus, if they come up with a belter of a caption, they could even win an OTT hoodie!
This week, the image showed a makeshift toilet on site. When you’ve gotta go, you’ve gotta go!
But, before Andy could give some corny captions, the competition claxon sounded for another giveaway. Thanks to our friends at Construction Skills People, we were giving away an Apple Watch worth £279.
And to win it, all our audience had to do was guess the correct number between one and twelve on the wheel of fortune. This week, the winner was… number eight!
It wasn’t just our winners who had the chance to be ‘Quids In’ though, oh no. Construction Skills People have 18th edition and other electrical training courses available all over the UK. And, we all know you sparks are rolling in it…
Two competitions down and two more to go, this officially marked the halfway part of the show. But what’s next I hear you ask? Well, it’s time for top tips.
Tip 1: Halford’s free winter car check!
If you go to Halford’s they’ll do a check on your car, completely for free! Simply book a time online that suits you, and their fully trained staff will provide the vital checks. This offer includes a bulb check, wiper blades check, battery check, oil check, windscreen chip check, plus a free Screenwash top up too!
And we all know what that means. Not only will your van/car be safe, but you’ll also be… Quids In!
Speaking of which it was now time for our third giveaway, Blindfold Darts. And, thanks to Construction Skills People, we were giving away a Makita Bluetooth Speaker and Makita SDS-Plus Rotary Hammer Drill Bundle worth £225.89.
Heading over to the Blindfold Darts Arena, Joe was with Dan who was back and blindfolded ready to throw the darts. And, to be in with a chance of winning, all our audience had to do was guess which number Dan’s dart would land on. This week, it was the lucky number… FIVE!
Three competitions won, and with just one more competition to go, it was now time for our next part of the show… shoutouts!
This is the part of the show where our audience can get involved live on air and bag themselves a shoutout. Not only that, but we also honour our hero of the week too. Here, we talk about a tradesperson who has gone above and beyond in the industry.
This week, our cause was Dave Westell.
This construction worker is going above and beyond, running his first ever marathon and raising money for an incredible cause: Band of Builders! The marathon will take place on the 6th October in Bournemouth and Dave aims to raise £500 for the incredible team at Band of Builders who change peoples lives for the better.
So, if you think you can help Dave raise some important money for this fantastic charity then you can donate here.
Along with a few more shoutouts, it wasn’t long before the competition claxon sounded again and it was time for the final competition. Mug shot! This is where our man Jamie tries to throw as many of his 12 tea bags into the oversized mug hoop as possible.
And, at the minute, he was on a roll! This week, he managed to get six and our lucky winner, chosen at random, won themselves an Xbox One Console and Forza Horizon 4 Game Bundle worth £249!
Once again, this was all thanks to our fantastic sponsors Construction Skills People who, even if you are looking to progress to a site manager, Construction Skills People offer SSSTS and SMSTS courses available across the UK.
They are on the end of the phone to help as well. So, if you have a question relating to training give them a call. Find out more about them here.
So that was it, the end of our show. All that was left to say now was a massive thank you to our audience and our fantastic sponsors Construction Skills People. See you all next week!
