Who’s ready for another episode of Quids In? Well, you’re in luck! We’re back for another week and another great show so sit back, relax and enjoy!

This week, we had the fantastic sponsors and world-leading manufacturers of engineered wood-based panel products Norbord. And, thanks to them we had the chance to give away £800 worth of gift vouchers to spend at ‘PowerTool World’.

But first, it was time for a spot of news!

News Headlines!

Tradespeople urged to check whether they’re owed money by HMRC!

It has been found that millions of people could be missing out on their full tax relief entitlement. If you’re paid via PAYE, then you can claim it directly from HMRC. All you have to do is log in to your Personal Tax Account and apply online. And, you could have the money in your account in just 3 weeks so you’ll be QUIDS IN!

Pensioner plumber fined £2,000 for catching thieves on his CCTV camera!

A retired plumber has recently been fined £2,000 by his local council after catching several robberies on camera, deterring crime in the neighbourhood. The plumber installed the camera to make himself feel safer in his own home. However, when the council learnt about this, they fined him thousands of pounds for ‘damaging the brickwork’! The pensioner added, “the council don’t like cameras on the street because when we complain we’ve got the proof.”

Before Andy could discuss any more news though, the competition claxon sounded for cement mixer lottery! This time, we were giving our audience the chance to win a £200 PowerTool World voucher. And, all they had to do to be in with a chance of winning was guess a number between 1 and 12. Simple! This was all courtesy of our sponsors Norbord too and their new SterlingOSB Zero which is ideal for many different jobs including roofing, flooring, timber frame and dry lining. Strong and more consistent than plywood as well, it doesn’t contain any weak spots in the board either.

For our lucky winner who picked the number 12 as well, there was certainly no weak spots for them either because they’d landed themselves a £200 voucher!

With our first winner chosen though, it was now time for our second part of the show, caption this!

Caption This!

The aim of the game here is for our audience to simply caption the image they see on the screen. Easy! Plus, if they come up with a belter of a caption, they could even win an OTT hoodie!

This week, the image showed an apprentice with his phone torch strapped to his head. For this one, Andy went with the, well, let’s be honest, terrible caption of ‘no torch no problem’. Really Andy? Hopefully, we’ll have some better ones from the audience!

Speaking of which, it was now time for their second chance to win, wheel of fortune! Thanks to our friends at Norbord and Sterling OSB Zero, we were giving away another £200 voucher, who are now smoother, more environmentally friendly and made with zero-added formaldehyde (hence the name) by the way.

Spinning the wheel, Andy was flooded with comments until we landed on the winning number… ONE!

Two competitions down and two more to go, this officially marked the halfway part of the show. But what’s next I hear you ask? Well, it’s time for top tips.

Top Tips!

This is the part of the show where we aim to keep money in the pockets of the UK tradespeople. Everything is getting more expensive nowadays so we try and help our audience keep a hold of their dosh with some top tips.

Tip 1: Last chance for parents to apply for up to £1,000 worth of employee supported childcare. In October, the government are putting an end to new parents applying for employee supported childcare worth up to thousands of pounds. A workplace benefit that allows staff to pay for their childcare through a ‘salary sacrifice’, it could save parents up to £1,000 a year. So, check to see whether you’re eligible before you miss out.

Tip 2: More than £1.5 million premium bonds left unclaimed! In total, those bonds left unclaimed amounts up to £60 million and you could be missing out on some serious dosh. In fact, five of the unclaimed bonds are worth a whopping £100,000 each! So, to check if you’ve won, go online and check your premium bond holder number, NSI number or ring up to see about your bond record. You never know, you could be owed thousands! And then, you’ll definitely be Quids In!

Speaking of which, it was time for another competition. Andy’s favourite part of the show, it was time for blindfold darts. Heading over to the Blindfold Darts Arena, Scott was with Jaye who was ready to throw his darts. This time, our audience had the chance to win another £200 voucher and all they had to be in with a chance of winning was guess the number…16!

But, hang on, what’s behind Andy? Well, it’s only our brand new competition mug shot! But first, before we play that, we need to give some shoutouts!

This is the part of the show where our audience can get involved live on air and bag themselves a shoutout. Not only that, but we also honour our hero of the week too. Here, we talk about a tradesperson who has gone above and beyond in the industry.

This week though, we flipped things on its head a bit. Instead of honouring a hero, we honoured a worthwhile cause instead. Macmillan coffee morning. Today marked the biggest morning in the UK and no before you ask, we’re not asking you to bake a bunch of cakes. Instead, we’re asking you to take part and support the cause in another way.

Unfortunately, pretty much everyone has been affected by cancer, or know someone who has. And, one of the big parts associated with treatment is the support nurses and doctors provide. McMillan coffee mornings raise money to help continue to provide support to those who need it. Across the country people will be taking part, so find out where your nearest coffee morning is by checking out the MacMillan website. Or, head over to your nearest M&S where there will be a variety of things available for you to buy and help support McMillan.

But, before Andy could talk about things any further, the competition claxon sounded again and it was time for our final, and brand new competition, mug shot! Now, the aim of the game here is that our man Jamie tries to throw as many of his 12 tea bags into the oversized mug hoop as possible. And all our audience has to do to be in with a chance of winning is try and guess how many he lands.

What became very apparent very quickly during this game though is that the audience should aim low on their guesses. He really isn’t very good at it! And, after many failed attempts, he managed to get just two in the mug.

Luckily though, our audience didn’t have much faith in him either and went with low ball guesses.

And that’s it, the end of our show. All that was left to say now was a massive thank you to everyone who took part and our sponsor’s Sterling OSB Zero for all of the fantastic prizes today. And remember, for information on sizes, thickness, different types and how you can use it, visit sterlingosbzero.com. See you next time!
