We’re with you a day early for our latest episode of Quids In! And, this week, we have a very special Movember edition. A leading charity changing the face of men’s health, Movember are addressing some of the biggest health issues faced by men including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
You can get involved yourself in a number of different ways whether it be growing a moustache, walking or running 60km this month, or even hosting a Movember event of your own.
Along with supporting Movember, we will, of course, also be giving away a bunch of different prizes in today’s Quids In including signed football shirts, Movember gear, tablets and a supercar experience. But first, it’s time for some news!
‘Construction workers three times more likely to take their lives than men in any other professions!’
A shocking statistic, mental health is a big issue in the industry with a quarter of builders having considered suicide. According to the Office of National Statistics, between 2010 and 2015, there were 1,419 suicides in the construction industry and 1,409 of them were men.
Something needs to be done about mental health and ridding the stigma that men should be strong and tough.
That’s why we’ve teamed up with Movember this month to help spread awareness of mental health in the industry and to try and encourage people to speak out when they need it.
Before Andy could discuss things any further though, the competition claxon sounded for cement mixer lottery. Thanks to our friends at Movember, our audience had the chance to win a year’s supply of shaving gear and some Movember goodies. All they had to do to be in with a chance of winning, was guess the correct number between 1 and 12. Which, this week, was… NINE!
With one competition down though, it was now time for our next segment of the show: caption this!
The aim of the game here is for our audience to simply caption the image they see on the screen. Easy! Plus, if they come up with a belter of a caption, they could even win an OTT hoodie!
This week, the image showed a Henry Hoover dressed in PPE and work gear. To this, Andy gave the terrible caption of: ‘set for success’. Get it? Suck – cess?
Luckily though, before Andy could come up with any more terrible captions, it was time for our second competition: wheel of fortune! Thanks to Movember, we were giving our audience the chance to win a unique Chelsea shirt signed by Eidur Gudjohnsen. And, to be in with a chance of winning it, all our audience had to do was guess the number… THREE!
Two competitions down and two more to go, this officially marked the halfway part of the show. But what’s next I hear you ask? Well, it’s time for top tips.
This week, Andy only had the one tip but it was definitely a belter!
Tip 1: Get up to £150 in free cash before Christmas!
With Halloween out of the way, Christmas is hurtling towards us and before you know it, you’ll be sat wondering where the year (and all your money) went. Well, there is a way you can get up to £150 for free before Christmas: switching bank accounts!
Here are some of the top ones:
– HSBC Advance: Free £150 and £50 more after one year if you’re still with them. Apply today and you can get a bonus before the 9th of December.
– First Direct: You can choose a freebie, e.g. a £150 Expedia voucher, £120 Amazon Echo, etc and you’ll be able to get this by the 1st of December.
– M&S Bank: Free £125 M&S voucher with NO minimum pay-in which you can get by the 9th of December.
Of course, with all these kind of things, there are some terms and conditions. So, make sure you check them out. But, on the face of things, this looks like a decent way to get a bit of extra cash before Christmas and we all know what that means. You’ll be… QUIDS IN!
Speaking of which, it was now time for our third competition: blindfold darts. Heading over to the Blindfold Darts Arena, we were mixing things up a bit and we joined our Quids In Extra host Joe who was with Sam who was blindfolded and ready to throw his darts.
This time, our audience had the chance to win a Triple Supercar Thrill courtesy of Buy a Gift. And to be in with a chance of winning, all they had to do was guess the correct number between 1 and 20. This week, it was the number… TWO!
Three competitions won, and with just one more competition to go, it was now time for our next part of the show… shoutouts!
This is the part of the show where our audience can get involved live on air and bag themselves a shoutout. Not only that, but we also honour our hero of the week too. Here, we talk about a tradesperson who has gone above and beyond in the industry.
This week, of course, we supported Movember as our cause of the week. It’s not too late to get involved with the Movember cause, you can sign up and become a member of the On The Tools team where we can raise funds together. If you want to get involved, you can join our team here. Not only that, but you can also donate to the Movember website directly here.
Alongside raising money, there are also a couple of key things Movember would like to talk about. Specifically, they want to emphasise that it’s ok to not be ok. And, that talking saves lives.
A sensitive subject, they also wanted to highlight the importance of ‘check yourself before you wreck yourself’. If you notice any changes down below that you’re not sure about, then please, go and see your doctor and ask about a PSA test. Especially if you’re over the age of fifty!
We’ve got a month-long campaign running with Movember, predominantly on Instagram where we will be raising awareness and money for the Movember cause along with giving our audience the chance to win some prizes. So, if you want to get involved with that, check out our Instagram here.
Overall, Movember as a cause does so much for men and their mental health. Therefore, we salute you and all of the work you do.
Before Andy could discuss things any further though, the competition claxon sounded for our final competition. This week, we were mixing things up with a very special moustache related game. Courtesy of our friends at Movember, our audience had a chance to win a Barcelona shirt signed by the squad. To win it though, they had to guess which of our five contestants had a moustache.
All having their faces covered by funny mouths, it was finally revealed that number four was our winner!
And that was it, the end of our show. All that was left to say now was a massive thank you to everyone who took part and our sponsor’s Movember. An absolutely incredible cause, in fifteen years, they have funded more than 1,200 men’s health projects around the world!
And, by 2030, they have the aim to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25%. So, if you want to get involved with us here at On The Tools in raising money and awareness for this incredible cause then click here.
