We’re back for another episode of Quids In. But wait… who’s this? Well, it’s only Dan isn’t it, back to present another show!

This week, we were sponsored by the ever fantastic City Plumbing and, like their previous show, we had some belter prizes to give away including tools, a tablet, Nest thermostat and an Apple watch. But what’s up first today? Well, let’s kick things off with some news headlines!

News Headlines!

‘Plumber digs a tunnel from his house to the pub whilst his wife slept!’

Yep! A plumber from Ireland has dug a tunnel from his house to his local pub 800 metres away. But why? Well, to get away from his wife’s snoring!

The plumber in question, Patsy, got the idea from Shawshank Redemption and took a whopping 15 years to dig his tunnel. Dedication! And, for the past five years, he has consequently been sneaking off to the pub every night. Leaving at 11 pm, he would return an hour later just after midnight. It wasn’t until Patsy’s neighbour’s sewage pipe blew that his secret tunnel was uncovered! Unfortunately, he managed to cause a crack in the pipe after accidentally hitting it whilst digging.

He told the court: “To be honest, I’m glad to be caught.”

“My wife always felt that I smelled of alcohol, and I answered that it was my natural scent.”

“It was just a matter of time when someone would catch me.”

“The owner of the pub always wondered how I always came from nowhere, and how I got out of the women’s toilet.”

‘On The Tools wins an award at Buckingham Palace!’

Yep, we only went and won the People’s Choice award at Buckingham Palace yesterday! A massive thank you to everyone that took time out to vote for us. We are so proud to represent UK Construction, it means so much to us, thank you!

Speaking of votes, it was now time for our audience to cast their vote in the first competition: cement mixer lottery. All they had to do to be in with a chance of winning a Bosch Combi Laser worth £100 and Bosch Professional Multi-Detector worth £65 was pick a number between 1 and 12. And, this week, the winning number was… 10!

All of today’s prizes were thanks to our friends at City Plumbing, the people to go to for all of your plumbing, heating, spares, electrical and bathroom needs. With over 4,000 products in every branch and over 370 branches nationwide as well, you’ll never be far away from a City Plumbing branch. So, head over to a store near you!

With one competition down though, it was now time for our next segment of the show: caption this!

Caption This!

The aim of the game here is for our audience to simply caption the image they see on the screen. Easy! Plus, if they come up with a belter of a caption, they could even win an OTT hoodie!

This week, the image showed a digger with a bag as a roof. To this, our Quids In extra host Joe came up with the caption: ‘soft top’. Love it!

But, before Dan could continue with a few captions of his own, he was interrupted by the competition claxon signalling our second giveaway: wheel of fortune!

Once again thanks to our friends at City Plumbing, we were giving our audience the chance to win a Nest 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat worth £166 and a Samsung Galaxy Tab A worth £141. To be in with a chance of being a winner, all our audience had to do was guess the correct number. Which, this week, was… FIVE!

Two competitions down and two more to go, this officially marked the halfway part of the show. But what’s next I hear you ask? Well, it’s time for top tips.

Top Tips!

Now, Dan only had one tip this week but it was certainly a good one!

Tip 1: Get money back on your work uniform! If you wear a uniform at work and have to wash, repair or replace it yourself then you may be able to reclaim £100’s of tax for up to five years of expenses.

To be able to claim though, you need to fit all of these criteria:
– You wear a recognisable uniform that shows you’ve got a certain job.
– Your employer requires you to wear it while you’re working.
– You have to purchase, clean, repair or replace it yourself.
– And you paid income tax in the year you are claiming for.

By using this, some people have been able to claim back hundreds. This would also be the perfect bit of extra cash on the run up to Christmas too so take a look to see if you’d be eligible! Because with that extra cash in the bank, you’ll definitely be Quids In!

Speaking of which, it was now time for our third competition: blindfold darts. With a new presenter in the studio, we were also shaking things up in the Blindfold Darts Arena where James was with Sam who was ready and raring to throw his darts. Landing it first time as well, he managed to get the number… 14!

And, to be in with a chance of winning a Dewalt Brushless Combi Drill worth £159 and a Dewalt Diamond Drill worth £199, all our audience had to do was guess the right number. With all our prizes courtesy of City Plumbing, today you need to check out their Trade price guide. It’s the thing for all your plumbing, heating, spares, electrical and bathroom needs. You can pick one up in your local branch!

With three competitions won though, and just one more to go, it was now time for the next part of our show… shoutouts!

This is the part of the show where our audience can get involved live on air and bag themselves a shoutout. Not only that, but we also honour our hero of the week too. Here, we talk about a tradesperson who has gone above and beyond in the industry.

This week, we didn’t just honour one hero, but a whole bunch: Charitable Trades Scotland.

They are a group of tradespeople who go above and beyond in what they do and show what it means to be a hero in the industry. Recently, they have converted the home of Audrey Miller who suffered a spinal stroke back in March 2017 leaving her paralysed from the waist down. Following her release from the hospital in December, she was given no support to help aid and adapt her home. Left sleeping in a hospital bed in the middle of her living room, these tradesmen came together to help.

Creating a wheelchair-accessible bedroom and wet room with toilet facilities, they also fitted a new kitchen and adapted the home to fit her needs. We salute you Charitable Trades Scotland and all of the incredible work you do!

Along with a few more shoutouts, it wasn’t long before the competition claxon sounded again and it was time for the final competition. Mug shot! This is where our man Jamie tries to throw as many of his 12 tea bags into the oversized mug hoop as possible. And he’s not very good at it!

Averaging at about 2, this week our audience had the chance to win an Apple Watch. And luckily, they didn’t have much faith in Jamie’s throwing abilities either and went with low ball guesses. An improvement on most weeks though, he managed to land a record-breaking 4!

But that was it, the end of our show. All that was left to say now was a massive thank you to everyone who took part and our sponsor’s City Plumbing. Don’t forget to check out their Trade price guide for all your plumbing, heating, spares, electrical and bathroom needs, you can pick one up in your local branch. See you next time!
