It’s Quids In time! Our weekly Facebook live show, we give our audience the chance to win a whole host of different prizes. Not only that, but we also discuss news headlines, top tips and honour a hero of the week too. So let’s take a look at this week’s show!
Sponsored by insurance company Simply Business, we were giving people the chance to win some extra security for their tools. Experts in covering businesses, they cover over 1,000 trade types. Simply Business can even build a policy just for you and your business.
But first, our host Any Taylor kicked off with the news…
‘Battle of the trades: who earns the most?’
According to new research, roofers are the highest earning trade in the UK! At the bottom of the list? Well, it’s actually the painters.
With joiners and electricians in second and third place and the plasterers joining the painters down at the bottom, the new data has found though that it’s all about location, location, location. In fact, roofers could earn tens of thousands of pounds more up in Glasgow. Earning 148% more compared to those in Leeds.
So, roofers, if you’re looking for more work and are down to brace the cold, it might be worth looking up north for your next job!
But before Andy could speak about this anymore it was time to move on to our first competition, cement mixer lottery! And, thanks to our friends at Simply Business, all our audience had to do to be in with a chance of winning a van vault, was guess a number between 1 and 12. And this time, it was the lucky number… EIGHT!
Plus, even if our audience didn’t win the prize, they could still be winners by taking advantage of the Simply Business offer. They are offering £25 off insurance, exclusively to the On The Tools audience!
With one competition down though, it was now time for our next segment of the show, caption this!
This is the part of the show where the audience can get involved and caption the picture shown on the screen. This week, the image showed a tradesman sitting down for a break with a snowman. To this, Andy gave the caption: ‘new workmate is a bit of a melt.’
What a good caption!
But, it was up to our audience to beat it and whilst they were getting their captions in, it was time for our second competition, wheel of fortune. Here, our audience had the chance to win a Ring Floodlight Camera worth £249, all by guessing a number between one and twelve. And this week, the winning number was… ELEVEN!
This was all thanks to insurance providers and our fantastic sponsors Simply Business. Working with over 430,000 small businesses and landlords, they trust them with their insurance. Not only that, but they are also supported by an award-winning claims team too who are available 24/7. Can’t get any more available than that!
So let’s crack on with some more of the show, and this time, it’s top tips!
This is the part of the show where we aim to keep money in the pockets of the UK tradespeople. Everything is getting more expensive nowadays so we try and help our audience keep a hold of their dosh with some top tips.
Tip 1: TV license price hikes! Now hold your horses guys because this is a tip with a massive saving of… £4! I mean, that’s a pint down the pub! So, as I’m sure many of you know, for the first time in donkey’s years, tv license prices are on the rise.
Now, to be fair, the boost is only by £4. But, there is a way to save yourself paying the inflated price for just one more year. If your license ends in March then make sure you renew it before April 1st. Why? Because then you don’t have to pay the inflated price for a whole other year. So, double check when yours is up for renewal and try and save yourself a few quid! Simple!
Tip 2: Get £25 off insurance with Simply Business! Yep our friends at Simply Business are back at it again to try and help save you lot some money. With £25 off their insurance and the added protection of knowing that if your tools are stolen, you have insurance, you’ll certainly be Quids In with this deal.
Simply Business cover over 1,000 trade types too so get yourself covered and save some cash! Find out more about it here.
And with all these top tips, then you could be… QUIDS IN!
Speaking of which, it was now time for our third competition, Blindfold Darts! Here, our audience had the chance to win another fantastic van vault, perfect for keeping their tools safe. Heading over to the Blindfold Darts Arena, Joe was with our man James who was blindfolded and ready to throw his darts. And, this week, he landed the lucky number… TEN!
With three done, we just had one more competition to go. But first, shoutouts!
This is the part of the show where our audience can get involved live on air and bag themselves a shoutout. Not only that, but we also honour our hero of the week too. Here, we talk about a tradesman who has gone above and beyond in the industry.
This week our cause was Steve Ankers.
Tool theft can destroy people’s lives, and for this tradesman, it did a lot more than leave him out of pocket. Manchester roofer Steve Ankers confronted the thieves when he discovered them trying to steal his tools out of his van, which was parked on his driveway. The confrontation resulted in the tradesman suffering a serious injury and lead to him having a stroke!
He is now going to need months of rehabilitation and care. Plus, all of his tools and materials for jobs were also taken and Steve’s family desperately need to keep the business. This is because they are currently paying off a loan which was taken out to cover the treatment for his wife’s brain tumour.
So, if you think you can help this tradesman and his family, please donate here.
On lighter news though, it was now time for our final competition of the show. Thanks to our sponsors Simply Business, we were able to give away a Ring Floodlight Cam worth £250! And, to be in with a chance of winning it, all our audience had to do was guess how many tea bags our man Jamie could throw into the oversized cup.
But wait? That isn’t Jamie? Nope, much to our audience’s dissapointment, our Quids In Extra host Joe was stepping in as Andy’s new sidekick. So, it was all up for grabs on this one. How many would Joe get?
Well, Joe ended up getting a reasonable seven in the end!
Unfortunately though, with this competition over, it now meant that our show had come to an end. All that was left to do now was say thank you to everyone who tuned in and a massive thank you to our fantastic sponsors Simply Business! See you next time!
