A roofer has recently been reported to have used his van to assault a cyclist in a moment of road rage horror.
According to reports, the roofer had become “extremely angry” after the wing mirror of his van was damaged whilst overtaking the cyclist. Courts heard that the thirty year old tradesman then turned on the cyclist proceeding to push and grab at him. Roofer Daryl Jones then apparently used his van to drive at the cyclist he had pushed to the ground.
He was found guilty of actual bodily harm. However, Jones proceeded to claim that he was innocent, denying the attack. However, the chairman of the bench felt that due to the serious nature of the incident, sentencing should take place at Crown Court.
The prosecuting solicitor described the incident. “There was contact between the two vehicles and the defendant pulled in front of the victim.”
“He came alongside shouting at the victim you have damaged my wing mirror.”
“He appeared to be extremely angry.”
“The defendant then grabbed hold of him and pushed him hard.”
“Then pushed him backwards and the victim fell back on to the road.”
It was then described that at this point, the roofer climbed back into his van, completed a u turn and “drove back at him.”
The prosecutor stated that, “the vehicle was used as a weapon.”
“It was a repeated and sustained assault.”
In fact, it was found that the assault was so violent that it had caused the cyclist’s helmet airbag to deploy! The roofer’s defending solicitor though states that the tradesman still argues that he “simply did not act in this way”. And that he has no anger issues.
This isn’t the first time a cyclist and tradesman have gone head to head though. A video went viral last year of a cyclist chasing after a tradesman’s van. This was after the workers were captured catcalling the female cyclist. However, a real debate was sparked by this. Was it real or fake? Take a look for yourself here.
