Is painting a trade? It’s an age-old debate. But, we think it is and therefore we have two incredible painters for you to choose from at this year’s OTT awards. Honouring the UK’s tradespeople, the awards are all about you lot so, it’s only right that you guys get to choose the winners! So, let’s decide on who should win the ‘Painter & Decorator of the Year’ award, sponsored by Armstead.

Let’s meet our shortlist!

First up, we have painter and decorator James Ayres.

Starting his own business in October 2016, James has been fully booked since! With his high standards of work and drive, he also goes above and beyond for his customers too. Even doing things such as building furniture, fixing bikes and mending broken door handles. All in all, there’s constant praise coming from James’ customers. And, this shows in the fact that all of his work comes from recommendations. He’s booked months in advance and this just keeps going!

James added: “With the support of my wife, I started my business two years ago after our first son was born.”

“Amazingly since starting J.Ayres Decor, I’ve never had a day without work.”

“And two years on I’m currently booking 5-6 months in advance!”

“I love my work and never leave a job with anything less than 100% customer satisfaction.”

“This reflects with my customers willing to wait for so long.”

“It was a complete surprise that I was nominated again and I’m over the moon about being shortlisted for the second year running.”

“I would love to bring home the award to show my family and teach my children that hard work pays off and does get recognised.”

“It would truly be an honour to win!”

Joining James in the running is another great painter and decorator, Georgie Baker.

When asked why Georgie should win, he was described to have a huge passion for the industry, loving the challenge of running his own business, pouring his heart and soul into his work. Offering everything from hand-painted murals, spraying, dust-free sanding to workmanship guarantees, he goes above and beyond for his customers.

Not only that, but he was also recommended by Dulux through their Dulux Select Decorators and Trust Mark Scheme. Since joining this, he has contributed a lot to the industry and community. Heading down to the academy to keep improving his skills, he has also donated a lot of his time to represent the scheme too. Most recently, he completed a 185-mile marathon as part of a team raising £2,500 for The Outward-Bound Trust Charity.

They added: “The trade has changed his post-prison life and has given him a true purpose, self-belief and usefulness, and winning an award would be the icing on the cake in his career!”

A customer testimonial also described, “Georgie is a very hard working trustworthy and reliable young man.”

“He is an absolute pleasure to work with nothing is too much trouble for him.”

“Needless to say Georgie is now my first port of call for any decorating or painting work I need doing and I have no hesitation in recommending him to family and friends.”
